Short Inspiration from the Scriptures: Tried!

But he knows every step [way] I take. When he has put
me to the test, I’ll come out as pure as gold.

(Job 23:10 – NIRV)

The Way of the Ungodly

Untold billions of people throughout time have chosen to outright reject God! Their WAYS have led to their death — both spiritually and naturally (Mt. 7:13-14). And then others take ways that seem right, but they are ways that lead to death (Prov. 16:25). These are the ways of the ungodly.

The Trying and Way of Job

God allowed Satan to try Job (Job 1:6-12). Satan used many vices and devices. He was responsible for Job’s broken relationships, misunderstood friendships, feelings of abandonment, physical pain, loss of possessions, mental anguish, and even the death of loved ones. Despite all the times that Job had been TRIED…at some point, he believed that God was ultimately putting him to a test. Job’s words ring out: “When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10). He maintained his ways and was eventually absolved by God.

Gold’s Refining Process

Gold that is taken from the earth needs to be refined many times before it becomes acceptable. Fire is used in the process to purify gold. Fire tries many other metals, as well. Metals that were tried in fire and did not stand the test or that were simply unfit for use were called reprobate. The author of this writing is familiar with…and has used a process similar to refining and purifying gold. We used lead instead of gold. Lead was placed in a fiery crucible and when it was taken out, all the impurities in the lead rose to the top. There were tools we used (such as a large iron spoon) to scrape all the foreign substances from the liquid lead (Prov. 25:4). The lead took on a mirrored image while it was still in liquid form. Then, the lead was poured into molds and went through a drying process and became pure. Crude gold is “tried” like that: it becomes finer gold!

Visited in the Night

The psalmist stated: You have put my heart to the test, searching me in the night; you have put me to the test and seen no evil purpose in me; I will keep my mouth from sin. (Ps. 17:3 – BBE). God often tries us in the night and during quiet times. He comes in and invades our space, whether we are active, at rest, or sleep.  He tries us in these three different postures: standing, sitting, or laying down. God also tries us in some dreams! (It’s not always best to try to figure out which dreams He uses, unless there is undeniable or confirmed evidence that God has spoken. Beware: Satan works in dreams, as well – II Cor. 11:14!) It seems that God speaks to everybody in dreams according to Job 33:14-18. It is this author’s belief that God can try us in dreams that can appear to us to be real until we realize (after we wake) that it was, in fact, a dream. God can project our surroundings in our dreams, such as the people we know, places we have visited, and even unfamiliar environments. He sets up the scene, as well as the test, to try us without us ever having to experience situations while we are conscious and active. Either way, whether awake or sleep, God can find out what is in our hearts and the “ways” we take. It should be noted that some dreams are not always meant for us to understand, but solely for God to prove us.

The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
beholding the evil and the good.
(Prov. 15:3)

Short Inspiration from the Scriptures: Now God Knows!

“For now I know that thou fearest God…”
(Gen. 22:12. Read chapter 22)

In Genesis chapter 22, God tested Abraham by asking him to take his son Isaac to a mountain and offer him as a burnt offering. This test was tailored for Abraham to prove his love, loyalty, devotion, worship, sacrifice, and commitment to his Lord! It’s likely that nothing else on earth was more precious to Abraham than the son God had promised him.

After hearing God’s voice, Abraham took his son and the wood to consume Isaac upon God’s altar!  We see the succession: Abraham journeyed three days to the mountain. And at the base of the mountain, he was prepared to climb with the wood, items for the fire, and the knife to slay his son. God (I’m speaking in human terms) watched to see this progression. This series of events still did not prove Abraham’s loyalty until he attempted to plunge a knife, directly into the body of his son. We see Abraham performing the ultimate sacrifice in vs. 10, when he extended his hand and would have killed his son, but the voice from the angel of the Lord stopped him! The angel of the Lord now knows. Thousands of years later we come to know — what type of man Abraham was, as well. It’s the story of his life, from the book of Genesis, that speaks of his progressive faith and maturity. We see his devotion and loyalty and his ability to “worship” (vs. 5) during his greatest time of testing! What an example to us who read about the details of a man who loved God and ultimately overcame by his faith in God!

The child Isaac was saved. He remained God’s promised seed and through him, God would multiply and bless the earth! What a test of faith, to be set to kill your son, believing that God would raise him from the dead (Heb. 11:19). Abraham passed his test and a nearby ram caught in the brush was sacrificed instead!

How is God Proving Us?

There are special times when God wants to test our integrity, loyalty, commitment, love, or devotion, as well (Ps. 26:2; Ps. 66:10). Sometimes He does it in the smallest ways until (speaking again in human terms) He knows what we will do. More importantly, God tests us to HELP US UNDERSTAND what WE will do! He may do this with progressive steps, as with Abraham. He takes us through these steps…each a bit harder than the prior one, until hopefully, we pass the test.

Have you passed your recent test?

Short Inspirations from the Scriptures: “Forgive Us Of Our Trespasses!”

“Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others.”
(Matthew 6:12 – CEV)

Afterwards, David’s conscience bothered him
because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s robe.

(I Samuel 24:5 – ISV version)

TRESPASSING CHRISTIANS WHO OFFEND
It is impossible for us to go through life without (in some way) offending someone. We can certainly have good motives and well-meaning intentions, but people can misread our motives and intentions and, as a result, become offended by us. We can overstep boundaries with people and either intentionally or unintentionally intrude into areas of their conscience that God deems unlawful (I Cor. 8:11-12, Rom. 14:1-3).

For the most part, Christians are not to intentionally trespass or violate another’s conscience, whether they are saved or unsaved. There certainly are exceptions to this rule. For example, Christians are to uphold biblical standards. The world opposes those biblical standards. So…there will always be opposition, directly or indirectly, between Christians adhering to their beliefs, and many non-Christians, who are often offended by Christians’ beliefs and their standards.

DAVID’S OFFENSE
David, the mighty warrior, during God’s acceptable time in history, slew thousands of His enemies. David certainly was an offense to those who opposed the nation of Israel! He seemed untouched by all the bloodshed because he fought under the banner of the Lord. And yet… It seemed to have affected David to his core that he had cut the garment of the sleeping king Saul (I Samuel 24:4). (This was a king who, in every way, tried to murder David.) It also seemed, at least to David’s men, that Saul deserved to die by the hand of David (vs. 4). What could be emphasized here is that “DAVID’S HEART SMOTE HIM” (vs. 5). Other translations state: “the CONSCIENCE of David was greatly affected” after his “garment trespass” and nearly going all the way by “touching the Lord’s anointed!” (vs. 6; I Samuel 26:8-9).

LISTEN TO CONSCIENCE
Sometimes we have to listen to our conscience when others are affected by something we have said or done…not always for our sake or for something we’ve done wrong, but because they were offended (I Cor. 10:27-29). Then there are times we come to realize we have trespassed against someone due to our negligence or insensitivity toward them. Whatever the case, let us pray daily that the Lord will forgive us of our sins against others, knowing what it is like when others have trespassed against us in so many ways, as well.

Short Inspiration from the Scriptures: Ministers!

Ministers

(And the King shall answer and say unto them,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have
done it unto one of the least of these my
brethren ye have done it unto me.)
– Matthew 25:40 –

hands people friends communication

There are deep longings and unanswered questions that settle in the hearts of masses of people. They look for ways out and would confide in anyone who is trustworthy and able to help them. In countless ways — ministers run to their rescue — they are in place and the world has been touched by these servants of God! The Lord has fashioned some ministers to help reach into the very core of hurting, yet seeking-people (Prov. 20:5; I Cor. 14:24-25). They have gone through experiences that qualify them to be used by God to minister on great levels, as well (II Timothy 2:20-21). Ministers minister in every way imaginable to lonely and despondent people. They are doing a great work for Christ by their shear masses. All across the globe, ministers for Christ have been strategically placed in areas of spiritual leadership, and yet, they have servant hearts (Matt. 25:34-40). Even with all the ministry that takes place, everywhere people are still waiting for these true representatives of Christ to come forth. In comparison, the harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Thousands are ready for spiritual awakening and ministers will lead that cause…for, how shall they hear without a preacher? People must be led into a loving relationship with Christ! Are you that minister? If so…God has given you the power to make a difference and change lives!

Let’s be about our Father’s business!

Short Inspiration from the Scriptures: Give Up on God?

afterglow agriculture back light cereal

(And Jesus said unto him, No man, having
put his hand to the plough, and looking
back, is fit for the kingdom of God.)
Luke 9:62

Many who read this article have experienced God in very real and life-changing ways. We look back on salvation and recall the powers of darkness at work to divert our attention from the glorious message of the gospel! They tried to blind our minds from the deliverance we were being introduced to in Jesus Christ! As we heard the gospel and believed on Him, chains began to break. We were no longer held captive by the dark prince of the power of the air! We now have freedom and experience a newness of life. God truly is our personal Savior! Many of us sense His abiding presence. He has made Himself known to us time and time again. We have experienced the power of God on many levels over the years. God is with us!

Give Up on God? What Will You Do?

As we walk with God, we sense an ever hostile world. Our nation is in unrest. War and violence has increased. Many have no love for God or anyone who represents Him. False Christians and their foundations are beginning to crumble. These are also proving grounds for those who belong to Christ. Times like these have surfaced before across the lines of history. But, we now find ourselves in perilous times like those in the past! The old quote from Thomas Paine states: “these are times which try men’s souls.” Souls are being tried in the household of faith. How about you? What will you and your house do? Serve the Lord? Remember…you have tasted and seen that He is good! You have put your hand on the plough. There should be no turning back. If you turn back what are you going back to? Whatever it is…the one who turns back is not fit for the kingdom of God! Are you lonely? Have fellowship with God. Are you perplexed? Wait on God and give Him the glory. Are you fearful? Trust God and don’t turn back!

(Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also
go away? Then Simon Peter answered him,
Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast
the words of eternal life.”)
St. John 6:68
