Tis the Season for Forgiving!

Then said Jesus, Father, forgive
them; for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

Does the holidays have you stressed out because you don’t seem to have much to give?  Why don’t you give someone a wonderful gift this holiday season that may be valued more than money? Give forgiveness! This great gift that you have can, no doubt, bring joy to some troubled soul today. You may very well have the power to release someone of past offenses done to you or levelled at you. Release them and in turn, release yourself. You may find it to be the best gift you ever gave.

It is true that some people don’t accept gifts to well, but still give it in the spirit that Christ would (St. John 1:11). All of us have given quality gifts we thought people would like only to find it didn’t suit them, and that’s okay…but, give anyway!

There has never been a better time when Christmas and Easter come together so beautifully. We celebrate both Christ’s birth and resurrection as well as reflect on His death. His birth is a season for giving. His death is a time we reflect on Him giving himself for those who humiliated and wronged Him. They planned and schemed. They lied in wait for Him and finally, beat and put Him to death. Here is a quote from Luke 23;34, “Father forgive them; for they know not what they do.” In His humility, Christ was a VICTIM who became the world’s greatest OVERCOMER (Phil. 2:8-9)! He gave to those who hurt Him the most. His example is the true spirit of giving this holiday season!

Why don’t you, by the Spirit of the Lord, call someone and tell them you are sorry for what happened in the past and ask for forgiveness or maybe you need to tell them you forgive them. These make great gifts this time of year!

“Improving Our Self-Image” – A Complete Sunday School Lesson Authored by PCAF Member Patrice Smith

This excellent author has written on a powerful subject dealing with our self-esteem. Far too many people who belong to Christ suffer from feelings of inferiority in so many areas! Patrice has this material available for both adults and young adult classes. You may want to take a Sunday and break from your traditional classes to teach on this eye-opening subject! If Sundays are not convenient, try holding classes during the week or on one Bible class night.

Here is a sample of “Improving Our Self-Image”:

“Improving Our Self-Image How is your self-esteem? How do you see yourself? Are you guilty of comparing yourself to friends, relatives or celebrities? What do you really think about you? Do you long to be taller or shorter? Feel you’re not pretty or handsome enough? Are you struggling to lose weight hoping to look like that super super-model you admire? Maybe you’re on the other end of the spectrum and want to gain a few pounds. Unfortunately, in our society physical features are much more important than what we have on the inside, especially our spirituality.  For many people there is a constant pressure for perfection, to meet the physical standards that the media holds in high regards. Looking sexy, thin, constantly being told you need to have this hair color, drive this car and wear these clothes in order to fit in or meet our social standards. Everybody has some level of self-esteem. We all have thoughts about who we are, good, bad or indifferent. Our self-worth is often based on our physical features, the money we make, our position in life, college degrees.

Short Inspiration from the Scriptures: Tried!

But he knows every step [way] I take. When he has put
me to the test, I’ll come out as pure as gold.

(Job 23:10 – NIRV)

The Way of the Ungodly

Untold billions of people throughout time have chosen to outright reject God! Their WAYS have led to their death — both spiritually and naturally (Mt. 7:13-14). And then others take ways that seem right, but they are ways that lead to death (Prov. 16:25). These are the ways of the ungodly.

The Trying and Way of Job

God allowed Satan to try Job (Job 1:6-12). Satan used many vices and devices. He was responsible for Job’s broken relationships, misunderstood friendships, feelings of abandonment, physical pain, loss of possessions, mental anguish, and even the death of loved ones. Despite all the times that Job had been TRIED…at some point, he believed that God was ultimately putting him to a test. Job’s words ring out: “When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10). He maintained his ways and was eventually absolved by God.

Gold’s Refining Process

Gold that is taken from the earth needs to be refined many times before it becomes acceptable. Fire is used in the process to purify gold. Fire tries many other metals, as well. Metals that were tried in fire and did not stand the test or that were simply unfit for use were called reprobate. The author of this writing is familiar with…and has used a process similar to refining and purifying gold. We used lead instead of gold. Lead was placed in a fiery crucible and when it was taken out, all the impurities in the lead rose to the top. There were tools we used (such as a large iron spoon) to scrape all the foreign substances from the liquid lead (Prov. 25:4). The lead took on a mirrored image while it was still in liquid form. Then, the lead was poured into molds and went through a drying process and became pure. Crude gold is “tried” like that: it becomes finer gold!

Visited in the Night

The psalmist stated: You have put my heart to the test, searching me in the night; you have put me to the test and seen no evil purpose in me; I will keep my mouth from sin. (Ps. 17:3 – BBE). God often tries us in the night and during quiet times. He comes in and invades our space, whether we are active, at rest, or sleep.  He tries us in these three different postures: standing, sitting, or laying down. God also tries us in some dreams! (It’s not always best to try to figure out which dreams He uses, unless there is undeniable or confirmed evidence that God has spoken. Beware: Satan works in dreams, as well – II Cor. 11:14!) It seems that God speaks to everybody in dreams according to Job 33:14-18. It is this author’s belief that God can try us in dreams that can appear to us to be real until we realize (after we wake) that it was, in fact, a dream. God can project our surroundings in our dreams, such as the people we know, places we have visited, and even unfamiliar environments. He sets up the scene, as well as the test, to try us without us ever having to experience situations while we are conscious and active. Either way, whether awake or sleep, God can find out what is in our hearts and the “ways” we take. It should be noted that some dreams are not always meant for us to understand, but solely for God to prove us.

The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
beholding the evil and the good.
(Prov. 15:3)

War and Conquerors!

Satan orchestrates demonic attacks, and demons attack many times when we are not expecting it. They take aim directly at us and swiftly shoot their arrows, attempting to penetrate any weakness in our spiritual armor. They launch cleverly designed thoughts into our thoughts, and attempt to set in motion one fiery thought succeeding another. Their design is that we accept the outcome of what is being projected on us.

Accepting defeat is not an option for a child of God! Godly warriors fight! They draw near to God and resist the devil. They look to their Captain, our Lord Jesus Christ, and understand the seriousness of the moment they are confronted with! They defend themselves with the shield of faith! God’s warriors go on the offense, quoting the word of God for every moment they are under intense attack!

They soon see the battle turn toward their favor!

We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us! Every temptation that the children of God face is common…and in every situation, God will make a way of escape. We are to stand, therefore, with the armor of God spoken of in Ephesians, chapter 6. If we do these things we will come away from the intense battle more than conquerors because of our Lord Jesus Christ!
