Lessons from Life – #102

God hates cheating in the marketplace;
    he loves it when business is aboveboard.
(Prov. 11:1 – MSG Bible)

I was called to a home and completed a work for an old man today. I was very proud of myself to have finished the task. “That will be 40.00 dollars”, I said, after completing the work. He promptly reached into his wallet and handed me three crisp 20.00 dollar bills, totaling 60.00 dollars. These were the type of bills that seemed fresh from the bank…the kind that stick together. He was well into his 90s and wasn’t aware he had given me too much money. I could have easily pocketed the extra 20.00. I quickly returned the 20.00 bill to him, and said: “I may have kept this 20.00 bill one time in my life, but I am planning on seeing Jesus!”

God sees every transaction we have with others and He knows if we have been unfair in dealing with then financially. There are times when only we know our motives for estimating, charging, and figuring…and whether those motives are aboveboard. We all should practice integrity down to every single penny.
